I'm incredibly excited though. I'm a second timer so I know what to expect and where I need to work. IronBri is back baby!

These are my thoughts- mostly triathlon and running related... but also the crazy little things that float around my head, day in and day out, making me want to run, or not run. Here's to smooth swims, long rides and strong runs!

Five months!
Ironman is five months from today! WooHoo!!! I booked my hotel a couple weekends ago, requested the days off work- so I'm good to go! Oh yeah, except for that pesky thing called training! I started early pre-training this week. I'm just taking the first week (of 20) and scaling it down a bit. However, I am definitely out of shape! This bodes well for my sleep, but not so much my hips and back. So weak!

bad Saturday!
Totally unrelated to running, racing or sport of any kind. Yesterday was not great. Plain and simple. Here's why:
Saturday morning Philip and I have a couple errands to run. He pulls his car out of the garage to let it warm up. We're standing in the driveway enjoying the beautiful sunshine and uh-oh, his car dies. He ran out of gas! In his own driveway! Luckily my car was there so we just grabbed a gas can and headed out. (And on the way to the gas station, my gas light came on too!). Okay, so that wasn't terrible... keep reading.
A couple friends came over so Philip could replace the fuel filter on her truck. Apparently, unlike his car, this requires being under the truck. So, we're all hanging out in the driveway/garage and chatting and I look up and Phil is on his knees wiping his face. Um, so the line to the filter still had pressure (or something like that) and gas came pouring out onto his face. No safety glasses. He goes running into the kitchen sink and I follow. He rinses his eyes and face for a few minutes and gets out the Dawn soap to clean it off. He looked like he'd been punched twice, dark and red circles around his eyes and his eyes were all bloodshot. I was really worried. The smell of gas coming off him was pretty nauseating and filling the entire house, upstairs and down. Luckily, that all turned out okay, he can still see and it didn't burn his skin or actually hurt him in anyway.
So, we head downtown for a birthday. Yay! We had dinner at Mama's Mexican Kitchen. My first time there- delish! I had an awesome veggie burrito that was HUGE. I had so much leftover that I was looking forward to as leftovers today. WAS looking forward to. Fast forward... after dinner went to Fado's had a great time. Took a cab back to the car... where I see two windows in my car have been smashed and there is a huge chunk of concrete sitting on my seat. The parking curb kind of concrete- about a foot long. Glass was everywhere in the front and back of the car. The food was gone. (DAMMIT) and so was my ashtray insert and the change in it. Probably less than two bucks- mostly pennies. My GPS was still in the glove box, although everything else had been pulled out and thrown around the car. I'm guessing the just didn't see the GPS on the little shelf in the glove box. Even my re-usable grocery bags had been pulled out of the door pockets and opened up. My sunglasses clip on the visor pulled off and broken, but my sunglasses still there. It appears nothing else is missing, just everything out of sorts all over the front and back. Weird. So, I put on a pair of gloves and use those and a grocery bag to try to get enough glass off the seat to drove home. In the front we were sitting on the grocery bags, in the back we pulled up the floor mats and shook them off so they could sit on them. Thank goodness it wasn't raining, but it was a cold ride home. I managed to keep it together and not get too upset and kind of laugh at what happened- mainly because they took my food!!!!
Luckily Philip has a house, with a garage. So he pulled his car out and mine is in there right now. I went to get a better look and take some pictures of the missing windows and all the glass still all over, and dropped and broke my camera! What the heck! Seriously! So, in the last two weeks, I've broken the screen on my blackberry, broken a mirror, had my car broken into and broken my camera. When I realized all this, I finally started crying. I think my mom insisted on buying the extended warranty on my camera for me when I bought it knowing how I drop things. I just hope it's still covered! I ordered a new screen for my blackberry- and hopefully I can fix it myself- so that's only $10. The mirror was a cheap one from Target, but I think it's bringing me bad luck. It's dealing with the car that's going to suck. That car is jinxed. I've had it about four years and I've been rear-ended twice and now broken into.
So, that was our day. Ran out of gas, gas in the face, car broken into, and broke a camera. At least we each had our own theme. And were laughing about it before falling asleep at three this morning!

woohoo!!!!
The end of 2009 is upon us--- and what a wonderful year it has been. I've met some amzaing people, reconnected with old friends, work on my relationships with my family, gone out on several limbs at work with my ideas and opinions (some went over well, some did not). I've tried new things, I've been disciplined and worked hard and had great results. And, I've been a slacker, slowed down, enjoyed life and having no real plan. Overall, it's been a successful year. I've learned a lot about myself and the people around me that I love, and who I can count on to the end.
2010 will be another fabulous year. I've got a couple big plans already set in stone. Two trips. One for an amazing several days of fun (VEGAS!!!!). One for racing and testing my strength. Physically, mentally and emotionally. Ironman CDA 2010 will be much better than 2008. First of all, I know what I'm up against. I know I can do it. No matter how much it hurts (and oh geez, IT WILL HURT), how long the day seems, it can be done. Also, I have more people coming to watch me. In 2008 it was just my mom, aunt and cousin- and those tracking me online throughout the day across the country (love you Cali, Ohio, Florida and Pitt). This year my sister and her two girls want to be there, my mom, my cousin, two of my roommates, a couple friends from the area. I'll have my own little cheering section. I might have to get t-shirts! Hmmm, I like polka-dots!! lol.

Back from Boston
I got back Saturday night from two weeks in the Boston area for work. Yuck!!!! I only got four runs in while I was there, we were working so hard for such long hours. Ugh. On the other hand, it was a lot of overtime pay! Wheee! That'll pay for my Vegas trip that Philip and I booked for March just before I left.
However, those two weeks killed me. I'm feeling so lazy. The weather is terrible, it's always dark outside, and even though it's the holidays I'm miserable, sad and lonely.
I'm excited to go running wiht Phil's dog on Christmas though!
I'll get back on track soon, I have to! Ironman is in six months and five days!!!

hotty hot!
I'm going for my second hot yoga session tonight! Woohoo! However, now I know what I'm getting myself into. Eek. The breathing at the beginning last time made me a little dizzy. I had to lay down a couple times, but overall, I think I did well. Darn good, even!
Cheers to new experiences and successes!

underwater camera
Last Saturday I was supposed to get up early to head to Covington to partake in a swim video clinic. What's this? Get filmed below and above water to see exactly how I swim and what's up with my stroke! Sweet! Anyway, I was going to leave my house at 6:30am (ewwww). However, I woke up at 6:50! OMG! I flew out the door with less than an hour to be to the pool- and a 50 minute drive ahead of me.... if there's no traffic. No traffic, but so much wind and rain! And then my gas light goes on. Oh dear. At least I knew where there was a gas station immediately off the freeway so I wouldn't waste time.
I got to the pool, dashed through the locker room, hitting a bench on the way and leaving a huuuuge purple and black bruise on my inner shin, just in time for a few minutes of warmup before the taping started. Phew.
I believe I actually overheard them say that I'm actually a pretty good swimmer. The things I need to work on 1)Keeping my arms wider on entry- no crossing over! 2) Rotation and body position- hips up! 3) Keeping my arms closer to my body in the pull phase. I think that was it. Oh, and getting stronger and faster of course- but I think that's on everyone's radar.
So, right now when I head to the pool, I will spend less time with laps and more time on drills. Making sure not to let myself get tired and sloppy. When that happens, I pull out the kickboard to give my arms a break, but still get some cardio in. I have it in my head that I'm goign to ROCK Ironman CDA next summer. And by rock, I'm thinking about 1:15 on the swim, 6:45 on the bike, and let's just pray for under 5:00 on the run! That would put me around 13 hours? Can it be done ladies and gents? I believe so. Fingers crossed for a good base build phase, no car accidents in the months prior and no fever the morning of. And figuring out my nutrition!
