I need to go purchase a plane ticket to cape cod so I can console Chris from The Bachelorette. Can't believe Ali let him go. I heart him.

These are my thoughts- mostly triathlon and running related... but also the crazy little things that float around my head, day in and day out, making me want to run, or not run. Here's to smooth swims, long rides and strong runs!

Things I hate when I'm riding my bike!
1- mailboxes that are super close to the road
2- hybrid cars-- seriously, those things sneak up on you quick!
3- yapping dogs in non fenced yards
4- hitting a pothole at 35mph on a downhill...
5- bugs in my teeth
6- cars at stop signs that aren't totally sure they want to stop for cyclists that already stopped and clipped back in
7- stop lights and signs in general
8- hay trucks! Hay stings the legs!

So many thoughts running through my head right now. So many things to say. Some of them not appropriate for this audience as I know it would likely be retold. Others are 100% pertinent, but not what I want to write about right now.
I basically just don't want to be at work right now. It's a gorgeous Friday afternoon. Big plans tonight, birthday party for Ali and then hanging out with M.A. later on. Can't wait to see him again.
Oh, lesson learned last night though. Eating Thai food before running intervals is not wise. I had lunch around noon and then finished my yummy leftovers around three- so when I ran a little after five, I wasn't totally digested. Uuuuuughhhhh.

Bri's First Olympic
I feel like I should have a doll made to commemorate this upcoming day! I went ahead and registered for an Olympic distance triathlon in September in Lake Stevens. I can't even begin to describe how excited I am for this- my first time at this distance. Yup, I've done the other three- varying stages of sprint, a 70.3 and a 140.6. Somehow this distance (I think it would be a 31.1??) I've always passed up. So, a .9 mile swim, 24 mile bike and a 6.2 mile run (I've also never done a 10k). I'm not setting any lofty goals for this - an easy three hours should do it.
Broken down,
.9 mi swim = approx 30 min
24 mi bike= approx 80 min
6.2 mi run = approx 60 min
total time: 2:50
I think that's reasonable since it's only seven weeks away, yikes! I have a couple sprint distances I want to do between now and then too. New courses, time for a challenge :)

trail run
I'll never understand why people go trail running and wear headphones. I personally have never found more enjoyment and solitude in running through the woods by myself hearing every footstep land, cracking twigs, slapping rocks and tripping over roots. Listening to birds flitting about in the trees and imaging what kind of little woodland creature I've frightened with my gasping breath as I pass by and hear them scampering off. I had a great run this morning. It's hot here again- around 80 already when I returned at noon- and in the woods there's not really a breeze and it's muggy- I didn't take water. I never take anything with me when I run out there except my Garmin. And even then sometimes I wish I didn't- but I could find myself out there for hours and I really should keep track of time and distance since trying to guess at either out there would be a huge failure.
I saw a horse today. Completely unexpected. I know people ride out there since there's frequently large piles left in the middle of the trail by them- haha poor mountain bikers! But I found myself semi-lost today (it's impossible to actually get lost at these trails since there's so many intersections, I think the furthest with out a trail marker is .8 miles) but I turned left instead of right or something and went on a a different trail than I tried to plan. A ways out there I come around a corner to see a huge horse just yards away. Of course I stepped off the trail quickly so I wouldn't spook it and so the rider could pass easily. The horse could have cared less that I was only feet from it as it passed and ther rider wished me a good run. I forget how HUGE those animals are! And magnificent.
And as I left the trail, I saw a snake. This time alive and slithering across the path- I narrowly missed it with my right foot but amazingly it didn't seem to bother me that much. Within minutes it was out of my mind. Progress.

VFF!
So, I did my first run tonight in my new VFF's. And I love them! My left quad and calf muscle are still pretty tight and sore from sunday's hike so I had to take it easy- which was a good thing! I only did 1.25 miles but I think it was a good break-in run. So excited!
